Residents invited to make their calls at Library or Town Hall while repairs continue
East Dover suffered massive damage from Tropical Storm Irene and it may take up to a month to restore full phone service to the area. There is almost no cell phone coverage in town.
In the meantime, FairPoint will install phones at the town hall and library and one at the local day care center. Service is free for calls within in Vermont and it is easy for people to make long-distance calls using calling cards purchased locally.
"When Irene washed out the roads, she swallowed up our equipment along Hunter Brook and the Rock River," said Mike Smith, Vermont state president for FairPoint. "A month's too long for our customers to wait and we want to provide the best stop-gap measure possible."
The phones will be available 24/7. Residents can find more information on town bulletin boards located at the Dover School, East Dover Fire Station, the library and the post office.
FairPoint also will install a phone line at the day care center to provide an extra measure of safety and security for caregivers and children.
FairPoint crews will begin to install new equipment shortly, followed by restoring service over the coming weeks.
FairPoint will continue to provide updates as the work progresses.
