Highlights community connections and support for Can-Am Races
PORTLAND, Maine (January 31, 2012) - Mike Reed, Maine state president for FairPoint Communications, was the keynote speaker at the Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner last week, celebrating the international spotlight of the Can-Am Sled Dog Races that connect the community and bring the best in the sport to northern Maine.
The Can-Am celebrates 20 years of sled dog races this year and FairPoint has been a part of the event's success since 1998.
FairPoint's connection to this premier mushers' event is symbolic of the company's partnerships with communities and businesses across Maine, Reed said.
"Partnerships with communities through events like the Can-Am Sled Dog Races are an important connection for FairPoint," Reed said. "I know how much people look forward to this event; for the past 20 years the Can-Am races have rallied the nearby businesses and offered a boost to the local economy."
The Can-Am's flagship race, the Irving Woodlands Can-Am Crown 250-mile Race, is an Iditarod Yukon Quest qualifier, with an overall purse of $40,000. It is the longest dog sled race in the eastern United States.
