Scams from Area Code 876
Each day 30,000 calls are made from the Jamaican 876 area code attempting to defraud U.S. citizens. An Associated Press report noted conservative estimates that put the yearly take from Jamaican scams at $300 million. Researchers say lottery and sweepstakes fraud is vastly underreported, estimating up to 92 percent of victims stay silent, so exact figures are impossible to tally. These figures are staggering, yet there has been little awareness warning the vulnerable, especially senior citizens.

Residential Safe Digging
Always call 811 before beginning any digging project – no matter how small. Striking a single telephone utility line could result in injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages. When calling 811, homeowners and contractors are connected to their local one-call center, which notifies the appropriate utility companies of their intent to dig. Professional locators are then sent to the requested digging site to mark the approximate locations of underground utility lines. By calling 811 to have the underground utility lines in their area marked, homeowners and professionals are making an important decision that can help keep them and their communities safe and connected.
