Product Details includes:

  • When a 911 call is made, the local CO routes it to the E911 network, which is a dedicated portion of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Here's how it works:
  • The call is routed to a local E911 trunk between the local CO and the E911 tandem CO. The tandem CO then routes the
    911 call to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) via a PSAP E911 Trunk.
  • The PSAP answers the call and the callers location commonly referred to as Automatic Location Identification (ALI) is
    displayed on a computer screen along with an electronic map display identifying the callers location in most instances.
    The 911 call taker can then dispatch emergency personnel or transfer the caller to the appropriate agency for dispatch.
